People are fighting for talented employees. Companies do everything in their power to make their offers stand out \u2013 they offer increasingly better and more flexible employment conditions. As such conditions are what many employees, also ones outside of the IT industry, dream of, some of them decide to try their luck with something new and decide to change careers. At this point, certain questions arise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How many people are planning to switch to a different industry?<\/li>\n<li>What is actually required of candidates to work in the IT sector?<\/li>\n<li>What does the recruitment process look like?<\/li>\n<li>How to obtain the required skills?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will find answers to all of the questions above in our article. Check it out!<\/p>\n<h3>Are Poles more prone to plan careers in IT?<\/h3>\n<p>Studies show that Polish companies are facing the problem of employees leaving more frequently. These are definitely not isolated cases. This phenomenon even has its own name: the \u201cgreat reshuffling\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Opinion surveys unanimously confirm that one in four employees plans to change jobs within 3 months, and in the six-month perspective \u2013 one in two employees. Moreover, every tenth person is considering changing careers and\u00a0<strong>40% of them wants to get into IT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Salaries are the biggest incentive<\/h3>\n<p>The greatest advantage of the IT sector are the earnings.\u00a0<strong>Qualified programmers are now extremely competitive on the job market, that is why they have much room for negotiating their salaries<\/strong>. It is a honey pot for many people employed in other industries. High salaries are what influences the decision to change careers.<\/p>\n<p>This is also evidenced in statistics. According to research included in a report titled\u00a0<em>Switching Careers into IT<\/em>\u00a0(Przebran\u017cowienie do IT), as many as 83% of the respondents have indicated earnings as the main motivating factor for switching from their current industry to IT.<\/p>\n<h3>It is not all about the money<\/h3>\n<p>Of course, salaries are not the only argument for such a change. Other important aspects also include\u00a0<strong>the flexibility<\/strong>\u00a0which has to do not only with working remotely and the expected working time, but also with the possibility of working abroad or receiving one\u2019s salary in a foreign currency.<\/p>\n<p>What is also important is\u00a0<strong>a good relationship and efficient communication with the leader<\/strong>\u00a0who not only expects the employees to deliver their tasks, but most importantly provides them with support. Direct recruitment with employers recruiting employees on their own is different from indirect recruitment when a company is using the help of an external entity, such as ITDS Poland \u2013 the so-called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/itdsportugal.com\/en\/time-for-it-engineers-outsourcing-why-this-model-is-gaining-so-many-followers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" rel=\"noopener\">IT outsourcing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, both types of competencies are verified:\u00a0<strong>hard competencies<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the technical knowledge, and the following\u00a0<strong>soft skills<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>effective communication,<\/li>\n<li>ability to learn quickly, gather information and present conclusions in a diverse team,<\/li>\n<li>readiness to undertake initiatives and work independently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, in order to precisely identify their needs, potential candidates might be asked about their motivation to work and professional preferences.<\/p>\n<h3>Course of recruitment at ITDS<\/h3>\n<p>Even before the first meeting, the candidates are informed in detail about the course of recruitment process and they are presented with several project suggestions. In short,\u00a0<strong>being specific is key<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It also concerns the offer, financial terms, as well as the application or system that the future employee will be developing using a specific technology. During the interview, the topic of\u00a0<strong>development prospects<\/strong>\u00a0that ITDS proposes to its candidates is discussed.<\/p>\n<p>During the first meeting the recruiter checks the candidate\u2019s knowledge and competencies. In the next step, their technical skills are verified. At ITDS,\u00a0<strong>a technical assessor<\/strong>\u00a0takes care of that. Sometimes, the candidate might be asked to write a piece of code. Then, the potential employee has an interview with the target customer for whom a given project is being completed.<\/p>\n<p>As underlined by Katarzyna Stachowiak, a Partner at ITDS Poland highlights, interviews at ITDS Poland go quickly and smoothly. The company respects the candidates\u2019 time and tries to adjust to their calendars.\u00a0<strong>Usually, they receive job offers within five days, and sometimes even quicker.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Knowledge and experience are crucial in IT<\/h3>\n<p>Theoretical knowledge is a must, however,\u00a0<strong>the candidate\u2019s experience and practical knowledge<\/strong>\u00a0are of paramount importance during the interview. That is why if you wish to confidently take on the world of IT, you need to complete studies in computer science. Sometimes courses, books or tutorials prove to be insufficient. During your studies, it is worth engaging in additional projects that will help you create your first portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>Although, if you want to change careers quickly and efficiently, the perspective of 3-year studies might not be as appealing as completing a thorough, advanced course and an internship. Of course, such a path might also open a door for you to start your carrier in IT!
