Unleash the Future of AI — Build Scalable, Ground-breaking Large Language Model Systems!
Porto-based opportunity with a fully remote work model.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you will be working for our client, a global leader in AI innovation dedicated to transforming industries through advanced language models and intelligent automation. You will own the architecture and end-to-end delivery of complex, production-grade AI systems—ranging from AI decisioning logic to multi-step conversational agents—pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with large language models. Join us to shape the future of AI technology and accelerate your career in cutting-edge innovation.
Your main responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable, reliable AI systems with a focus on latency, cost, and operational efficiency.
- Develop complex language model architectures, including RAG, tool-calling, and multi-agent orchestration.
- Build evaluation frameworks to measure model quality, detect regressions, and monitor drift in production environments.
- Integrate AI/ML models into core business logic, ensuring safety, compliance, and robustness in decision-critical contexts.
- Engineer solutions for hallucination mitigation and safe-failure in regulated applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review designs, mentor engineers, and promote best practices in AI engineering.
- Evaluate build-vs-buy options across LLM providers and third-party AI tools to optimize performance and cost.
- Ensure observability, guardrails, and caching are in place for AI decisioning pipelines.
You're ideal for this role if you have:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years working with production Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Deep expertise in LLM application architecture: retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), multi-agent orchestration, model routing, and fallback strategies.
- Proven track record of deploying scalable AI systems with a focus on latency, reliability, and cost management.
- Strong system design skills with experience in guardrails, caching, and observability for AI pipelines.
- Practical knowledge of hallucination mitigation and designing safe AI solutions in regulated environments.
- Advanced proficiency with AI-assisted engineering tools and best practices.
- Ability to assess build-vs-buy tradeoffs among AI providers and third-party tools.
- Experience mentoring AI engineers and reviewing technical designs and code.
Nice-to-have:
- Certifications or experience in AI safety and compliance.
- Additional knowledge of AI evaluation harnesses and drift detection tools.
Language required for the role:
- Fluent English, with excellent communication skills.
Eligibility to work in Europe:
- Only candidates with an existing legal right to work in the European Union will be considered for this role.
