As a Senior Middleware Operations Engineer, you will be working for our client, a leader in the financial services industry, dedicated to delivering secure, reliable, and scalable middleware solutions. Your expertise will support the modernization of WebSphere Application Server estates, ensuring platform stability, high availability, and operational efficiency, while fostering the evolution toward Liberty. Your main responsibilities:
- Ensure the stability, support, and operational excellence of WebSphere Application Services in production environments.
- Manage incident handling, runtime troubleshooting, resets, and service recovery activities.
- Collaborate with legacy and scheduling teams to facilitate application server migrations and obsolescence management.
- Automate operational tasks using tools such as Ansible, XL Deploy, XL Release, shell scripting, and Python.
- Participate in platform optimization initiatives, including performance tuning and runtime stability improvements.
- Support patching, lifecycle activities, and standard change deployments within high-availability environments.
- Contribute to documentation, migration runbooks, and continuous improvement processes.
- Work autonomously on complex support cases while effectively escalating risks as needed.
You're ideal for this role if you have:
- 5+ years of experience with WebSphere Application Server administration and middleware operations.
- Proven experience managing at least one completed migration from WebSphere ND/Base to Liberty.
- Strong background in monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, and service restoration.
- Expertise in Linux/Unix environments, JVM basics, logs analysis, and application server runtime topics.
- Experience with XL Deploy (XLD), XL Release (XLR), or similar deployment/orchestration tools.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and Python for operational automation.
- Hands-on experience with performance optimization and platform stability improvements.
- Knowledge of COBOL ecosystems, TWS/workload automation, and technical debt remediation in financial settings.
It is a strong plus if you have:
- Experience with obsolescence management and migration planning.
- Certifications in middleware, automation, or cloud technologies.
